Saaz

‘Saaz’ by definition means a musical note. In ‘Hindi’ language ‘Saaz’ is used to mean a musical instrument. There also is a long-necked stringed instrument of the lute family, originating in the Ottoman Empire which is called ‘Saz’. This series of paintings draws from the instruments associated with melody and rhythm and the melodious nuances of music.

The instrument ‘Tabla’ consists of a pair of hand drums . Tabla playing is a mathematically calculated process. The right hand drum is called a tabla and the left hand drum is called a dagga or baya. Playing technique involves extensive use of the fingers and palms in various configurations to create a wide variety of different sounds and rhythms, reflected in the mnemonic syllables
